Help Bring the Railway City Road Races to Life!

It takes more than runners to make race day happen—it takes an incredible team of volunteers!
The Railway City Road Races bring hundreds of runners, families, and community members together for an exciting morning in St. Thomas. Our volunteers are at the heart of it all: welcoming participants, offering encouragement, helping runners stay on course, and creating the friendly race-day atmosphere our event is known for.
Whether you’re an experienced volunteer or joining us for the first time, we would love to have you on our Race Crew. No running required!
Race Day: Sunday, September 27, 2026
Location: CASO Station, 750 Talbot Street, St. Thomas, ON
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering is a fun and meaningful way to get involved in one of our community’s most exciting events. Your support helps the Railway City Road Races run safely and smoothly—and it also helps Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Thomas-Elgin continue making a difference in the lives of local young people.
As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to:
-
Be part of an energetic community event
-
Meet new people and work alongside a great team
-
Cheer on runners as they reach their goals
-
Support Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Thomas-Elgin
-
Gain valuable volunteer experience
-
Receive signed community-service hours for high school
-
Enjoy a fun morning without having to run a single kilometre!
Every role matters. Whether you’re handing out water, guiding runners, welcoming families, or celebrating finishers, you’ll be helping create a race-day experience participants will remember.
How Much Time Is Required?
Most volunteer positions require only a few hours on race morning. Start and finish times will vary depending on the role, and volunteers will receive their assignment and arrival details before the event.
Some positions begin early to help with registration and setup, while others take place during or near the end of the races. If you have limited availability, let us know when you register—we’ll do our best to match you with a suitable role.
Volunteer Opportunities

Registration Crew
Help runners start their morning on the right foot! Registration volunteers may assist with check-in, distribute race materials, answer basic questions, and direct participants where they need to go.
Course Marshals
Course marshals are positioned along the race routes to help direct runners, support course safety, and offer plenty of encouragement. This is a great role for enthusiastic volunteers who love cheering people on!
Aid Station Crew
Keep our runners moving by helping distribute water and other race-day supplies at designated aid stations along the course.
Finish Line Crew
Be there for one of the best moments of the day! Finish line volunteers help welcome and direct runners after they cross the finish line and may assist with medals, refreshments, or other finish-area activities.
Welcome Crew
Help create a warm first impression for runners, families, and spectators. Welcome Crew members greet guests, answer questions, provide directions, and help everyone feel part of the event.
Setup and Cleanup Crew
Help us prepare event spaces before runners arrive or lend a hand once the races are complete. These behind-the-scenes roles are essential to keeping race day organized.
Who Can Volunteer?
Volunteers of different ages and experience levels are welcome. No previous race experience is necessary—we’ll provide the information and instructions you need for your assigned role.
Families, students, community groups, service clubs, workplace teams, and individuals are all encouraged to join us. Volunteers under the required age may need to participate alongside a parent, guardian, or adult group leader.
Need community-service hours for high school? We’re happy to sign your volunteer-hours sheet after your shift is complete.
