Celebrating National Volunteer Week

Every great race has a starting line, a finish line, and a community that makes everything in between possible.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week (April 19–25), we’re taking a moment to recognize the incredible volunteers who power the Railway City Road Races. From early morning course setup to cheering runners across the finish line, our volunteers are the heartbeat of race day, and the reason our event continues to thrive year after year.

It's More Than Just Race Day
While race day is the most visible part of what we do, the impact of our volunteers stretches far beyond that. Throughout the year, dedicated individuals give their time and energy to help with planning, organizing, promoting, and supporting the event in countless ways.
They’re the ones:
Marking routes and setting up water stations
Registering participants and answering questions with a smile
Keeping runners safe along the course
Handing out medals, shirts, water and refreshments, and of course celebrating every finish
Bringing energy, encouragement, and community spirit to every corner of the race
Their commitment ensures that every runner, whether it’s their first 5K or their 12th year in a row, feels supported welcomed, and inspired.
The Power of Showing Up

Volunteering isn’t just about helping an event run smoothly. It’s about creating connection. It’s about showing up for your community and being part of something bigger than yourself.
Railway City Road Race volunteers help create an atmosphere that runners remember long after they’ve crossed the finish line. A cheer at the right moment, a helping hand when it’s needed, or a simple “you’ve got this” can make all the difference. That’s the kind of impact that can’t be measured in time splits or results.
To every volunteer who has supported the Railway City Road Races—past, present, and future—thank you. Your time, energy, and passion are what make this event so special. You are the reason our community comes together. You are the reason runners keep coming back. And you are the reason we can continue making a difference, one race at a time.
